A 48-member Advisory Committee has been meeting since July, most recently on October 19th, to help City Planners prepare a land use and transportation plan for Denver. It follows on the adoption in January 2000 of a "Denver Comprehensive Plan" that set a "vision" for the city, the last such plan having been adopted in 1956. The Cmte. uses geographic information systems (GIS) for a current image of the city, and then broadens the descriptors by defining neighborhoods, campuses, pedestrian areas, etc; thereby looking at existing land uses prior to reflecting on changes for future land uses. After the Advisory Committee completes its task in Spring 2000, smaller neighborhood workshops will be held to help evaluate and test the plan. Then a draft plan subject to public review will be prepared and sent to City Council for adoption. The ultimate goal will be development and implementation of neighborhood plans.
