Buck Mann, President, moved with his family to Denver 17 years ago after living in Maryland, and practicing law there. He has always lived near Washington Park, and moved with his family to the immediate area in 1989. He is a practicing trial lawyer, and joined the Board in 2001 in an effort to get to know the area, its concerns, and its residents better. He is the father of two nearly adult children and the husband of Nancy Mann, a learning disabilities consultant.
Lynn Pressnall, Vice-President, is passionate about preserving the positive living environment of our neighborhood. Protecting open space, privacy, solar access, and keeping our neighborhood "green" are projects Lynn believes will enhance property values. She is currently serving on Denver's Quick Wins II, a task force to address bulk/massing of property development. Lynn, as Transportation Committee Chair, is our neighborhood contact for TREX. She has been an advocate of several noise reduction proposals and is continuing efforts to reduce the noise impact of the TREX expansion. She is also an INC (Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation) Representative.
Marilyn Holmes, Secretary, has lived in Wash Park East for more than 20 years. She has served on the WPE Board for seven years, serving as Secretary for about six of those years. She is a realtor who is interested in preserving as much of the character of the neighborhood as possible without discouraging young couples from living here. She supports sensible growth. Marilyn volunteers to meet new people and to contribute to her community.
Ann Morgan, Treasurer, has lived in Wash. Park East for 13 years. She has been a WPE Board member since March of 2000, serving as Treasurer. This year, Ann formed a Zoning Committee, which she Chairs, to respond to the many variance requests that come before the Board. She is particularly interested in helping neighbors to explore their options (for example, she compiled a list of home additions and remodels that are in keeping with the character of the existing home and/or their neighbor?’s home).
Emilie C. Ailts (Parks and Recreation) is a 23-year resident of East Washington Park along with her husband, Tom, two cats and a dog. Her 23-year old daughter, a DU student, is a graduate of Steele Elementary, Merrill Middle School and South High School. In addition to her work on the WPENA, Emilie is the Immediate Past Board President of The Lowry Foundation and serves on the Parks Advisory Group at the new Stapleton redevelopment site. Emilie is a 1976 Phi Beta Kappa graduate in Communications from the University of Colorado and is a consultant to public entities in recreation management, fund raising, planning, public research and organizational development.
Having lived in East Wash Park for only a year, Barbara Shecter (Neighborhood Plan) is committed to neighborhood character and preservation issues. As a lawyer, a former president and participant in other neighborhood associations, and a construction project manager for many years, Barbara was appointed by the Mayor to the Board of Adjustment for Zoning Appeals for the City of Denver.
Terry Andrews (Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation) and her husband Paul have lived in Washington Park for eight years. Terry's vision and commitment to the preservation of the character of our neighborhood led to the formation of a non-profit grass roots organization called "Progress and Preservation Together" in 1999. Among the organization?’s goals has been to encourage responsible development in the area, and to explore the possibility of historic designation for portions of Washington Park East. Terry has been a volunteer newsletter distributor and a WPE Board member since 1997. She has served as Vice-President, and is currently our representative for Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation.
Joan Deming (Editor, Ads, Archive) and her family have lived in Washington Park East since 1985. Joan joined the Board in 1999, replacing Andrew Romanoff as WPE News Editor. Joan?’s main goal as Editor is to share a sense of community with her neighbors. She has been a newsletter Distribution Captain for the past six years, and is proud of the dedicated volunteers who deliver the newsletter. This year, Joan has been working on a WPENA Archive at the Denver Public Library. She is also a DPS parent volunteer. Joan?’s ?“bread and butter job?” is at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center as the Research Coordinator for the national Early Head Start research study.
Ed Hurry (Volunteer for Newsletter Distribution) has lived in Washington Park East for 23 years and in the general Wash Park area for 27 years. He believes that the newsletter and communication are important, and that it is important to volunteer.
