Washington Park East Neighborhood Association

Would it be too much to ask to be able to park your car in front of the home in which you live? As a resident of E. Wash Park it seems to be a problem that keeps getting worse. I recently had a neighbor decide not to sell his home, but instead rent it out. Well, he rented it to 4 bachelors, with 4 cars and with 4 girlfriends who visit, thus 8 cars usually just for this one home.

They even have a double garage, but choose to park all cars in the street. I think they use the garage as storage.

Then I have the neighbor who collects VW's. Is it fair for one neighbor to have 3-6 cars, trucks, and scooters all parked in the street? I don't think so.

Then we have the Gaylord Street issues. Well I noticed that signs went up last year saying that you have to be a resident to park along Gaylord and Vine (close to the restaurants). All that has done is pushed all the parked cars more North and more West on streets such as Race, High, and Williams.

Anyway, does Charlie Brown our Councilman read this board? If so, why not designate 2 spaces per household on the street? It would be nice to have guests to one's home not have to park 7 houses down. It would be nice to park in front of your home when you just finished shopping at Safeway and have a car load of groceries.

And what's up with the laws and abandoned vehicles. I swear someone parked in front of my home and went on a 5 week vacation! I have to look out of my big living room window at a dumpy 1970 Ford pickup truck every morning! Can I call the police to tow this away? I can't believe some people.

We also have renters in our neighborhood. A few weeks ago, when some elderly friends were coming to dinner, I asked that they and their live-ins not park all of their vehicles on our side of the street, in front of our home. One young woman told me that it is a public street and they are allowed to park anywhere they like. Our friends walked from approximately one block away to get to our home. I am tired of this selfish conduct, but what can we do? It is quite frustrating.

I am tired of this selfish conduct, but what can we do? It is quite frustrating.

zoning issues

Are you aware that it is against zone codes in East Wash Park for a home to be occupied by more than two individuals who do not share the same surname? If your neighbor rented to four young men, they should either be brothers, or at least share the same surname, or they are not allowed to occupy a residence in this community.
