The meeting opened at 7:06 with prayer by Tyson Jones. The minutes were approved by Ms. Merritt and seconded by Warren Powers. Our president introduced Tyson Jones and John Rodstrom and Joy from code enforcement, Chester Pruitt from Parks and recreation, and Suzanne, administrative assistant for Commissioner Rodstrom.
Commissioner Rodstrom gave info on obtaining a community center. Mr. Jones showed 2 tentative plans for the next year. Both of these men explained the obstacles we are up against in regards to the building vs. parking space. Ms. Spence-Brown advised we have an opportunity to review the plans at a later date. Mr. Plana from the planning division also explained how the plans came about. Mike McMillion advised the commissioner of the on going problem with cracks in the foundation with his new home. Suzanne from the Mr. Rodstrom?’s office said the building dept. is forming a task force to tackle these problems. They are contemplating instituting a clause in the warranty before houses are inspected that states when there are problems within the first 12-24 months they are responsible for correcting the problem. She said her office will send out people to maintain the planters and clean the storm drains. Mr. Rodstrom?’s office number is 357-6007, A resident stated the police knocked her fence down and she was told her homeowner?’s insurance should take care of it. Lisa Jackson questioned the funds available for houses. Our president advised our residents to bring all problems to the meeting and let us handle it. If we can?’t handle it we will refer it out. Joy from code enforcement advised residents that owners are responsible for keeping lots clean.
Benevolent Update: Mrs. Giles advised we had 3 deaths since our last meeting, Ms. McGriff, Mr. Davis, and Mr. Shepherd. She recapped the info on the surgery forms.
Enhancement District Council: Discussed erosion of homes on the North Fork of the New River. There will be a meeting for these residents. The meeting date is forthcoming.
Annexation info: Per Don stone after Sept 15th when St George goes to Lauderhill we will not be contigous to any city other than Ft Lauderdale, who has not shown an interest in annexing with us. Our neighborhood needs to get together with the other neighborhood needs to get together with the other neighborhoods that are annexed and write an annexation bill.
We now have a memorandum of understanding that will transfer grant money of $68,343 from Lafayette Park Assoc. to Washington Park Civic Assoc.
Mrs. Spence-Brown read the info on the grant so residents will know what need to be done. Yvonne Sumlin made a motion to execute the memorandum of understanding. Ms. Smith seconded the motion. All was in favor.
Mr. Powers gave thanks to the association for the ?“back to school program?” for the kids.
