Washington Park Neighborhood Preservation and Enhancement Dist.

Washington Park Enhancement and Preservation Council Meeting

Apr 10, 2005

WASHINGTON PARK ENHANCEMENT AND PRESERVATION
COUNCIL MEETING
P O BOX 1233
Fort Lauderdale, Fl. 33311

March 3, 2005

Our meeting started at 7:00p.m. Our minutes were read and Sandy Bloodsaw made a motion to accept the minutes. Idella Wright seconded the motion. We voted and accepted the minutes as written.

Eugene said he appreciates our support and prayers. It has helped him to go through his health issues. He would like for us to setup Workshops for the Council so that we understand the Code issues in our Neighborhood. The Workshops would help us to be familiar with the Codes. It?’s confusing for our Residents and Churches when Codes are enforced when they weren?’t before. Our Council members will need to be very familiar with the Codes. There were issues with Sheds. Broward County Codes are higher than the State?’s. Residents who brought Sheds a long time ago are now having problems. They are not in compliance with Broward County Code Enforcement. The Sheds need a product approval showing they meet the Broward County Code. Eugene had a list of people who had a violation of the Code and had a Court date. It was questioned why the Residents were not Grandfathered in. The County says the same Codes apply for everyone. When a Resident has a problem with the violation they can come to our Enhancement Council meeting to present the cause. We can write a letter to the County Commission to support the person keeping the property the same. We have to publicly advertise anytime we have a meeting. Residents with their name on the list must attend our meeting if they want our support. We are also having problems with our Commercial businesses. Some businesses seem to be picked on with Code issues. We reviewed the list of violations for people who were scheduled to appear in court. Code now says if a business is sold it has to remain the same type of business if it is up to Code. If it?’s not up to Code it can?’t remain the same type of business due to flex. The Muffler Shop on Sunrise Boulevard is having problems because they need additional parking. Commercial businesses pay about 30% of the taxes in our Neighborhood. We questioned businesses in the City of Fort Lauderdale regarding Code violations. The Cities can have different Codes from the County. We need to ride down Sunrise Boulevard between Northwest 27th Avenue, Northwest 31st Avenue and to Northwest 6th Street to look at the parking problems. We need to contact Raini Moran for details on Landscape and Parking violations. Email address is Rmoran@Broward.org. Sandy motioned that we have monthly Workshops for information on Broward County Codes. Eugene seconded the motion. We voted and accepted the motion.

Meeting adjourned at 8:17pm.
