The meeting opened at 7:20pm with the Lord?’s Prayer.

BSO Sgt. Joe Achilarra works the afternoon shift. There have been several residential burglaries during the daytime hours. They think kids are involved because they are getting in through small openings. There have also been car burglaries at homes and gas stations. He reminded us to lock our car doors. They have made 25 arrests with the help of officers from other areas in the County. He wants us to call if we see anything unusual in the neighborhood.

Joy from Code Enforcement said they are still working on the problems on NW 6th Court.

Elaine from Waste Management said the dumpster for the neighborhood cleanup was filled. They had to bring another dumpster to hold all the trash. Only three residents came out and helped with the cleanup.

John Benton gave out a survey to see if we need more cleanups. They are also working on a project to provide garbage cans with lids. He asked about any issues with garbage pickup. He also gave out the new books for waste management. He also gave information on recycling dates, times and the items they accept. You need to have your tax bill and picture ID to prove residency to drop off items. Joy said we can call her and she will fax the forms so that we can pick up the free paint.

Betty Jenkins from Community Development said they are working on the Washington Park Neighborhood for new homes and home improvement. Rubye Ellington retired. Ralph Stone is the new Director. They are looking at plans to help with affordable homes in our Neighborhood. The grants are for $10,000.00 for exterior work only.

Allocation of grant money is as follows:

28th year $100,000.00 remaining $66,507.00
30th year $ 68,343.00 remaining $68,343.00
31st year $ 92,463.00 remaining $92,463.00

There are 5 projects in process and the contractors have not been paid yet. $177,313.00 will remain after the projects are paid for. Another 17 or 18 homes can be done with the balance.

Single family home program can be qualified for $20,000.00 to $30, 000.00 grants. They still have the replacement program for older homes.

They are now doing high impact windows for the elderly because they can?’t put up shutters.

She gave some of the criteria to qualify for grants. We can call the office and have Tanya Mitchell come out to discuss the grants for those unable to come into the office. They will also come out to clarify the requirements for those who are afraid. If a home needs more than $10,000.00 worth of work they may qualify for a grant. The $10,000.00 is a forgivable loan for five years. A grant would be free after ten years.

They are working on many projects all over the County and that?’s why the eleven people who may qualify for the loan haven?’t placed an application. They are not taking anymore inquiries at this time. They are now just getting back to working on Central County. The new housing construction supervisor is Edna Frasier telephone number 954 765-5330.

Mrs. Jiles said that Sandy Bloodsaw sister passed. She and Yvonne sent flowers. The funeral is on June 15, 2007 at 10:00am at McWhites. Mrs. Merritt?’s husband is very sick.
Mrs. Jiles thanked everyone for the calls and visits while she was out ill.

Meeting adjourned at 8:25pm.
