Thank you, Faith.  I was not aware of any of this.  I presumed the lake was spring fed.  Also, having spent many years living on a South Texas ranch, water was seasonal except for the artesian well.  That is, when it rained, the tanks were full; when it didn't we filled outside bath tubs for the stock.

I guess I just find it a little startling that in a time when we all need to conserve (last month my SAWS bill was $31.00) we would even consider buying water for this purpose. 

First of all we need to consult the Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept.  They are the authority on pond maintenance and at the appropriate time we can actually have a thriving lake that may require little effort in upkeep.

Second, the clay layer in our lake does not extend out further than the water line that is currently exposed at this time. If we overfill the lake it will only be wasted. Consider that we have had 2 (100 year) rains and the water levels never came close to the emergency overflow. Again the clay layer is very limited.

Finally, Lake naysayers should realize that if that pond were to go dry there will be a lot properties that will take a nose dive in values.  That would include those properties that surround the lake. Give a good look at Towne Lake. Most of the houses that are maintained and look good are the lake side houses.

 Im not trying to dismiss the fact that the lake is the key attraction for the subdivision. However, I dont see the point of the lake; No swimming/ No fishing, etc.  I think my HOA dues would be better spent constructing a club house w/pool that residence can use as opposed to a lake that the ducks hardly spend time at. Seems they are out in the streets or in residence's yards. I know they were here first, but really cant some of them be placed elsewhere?
