Useable building materials are available from Home Recycling Exchange, Inc. which provides affordable building materials while diverting useable materials from the landfill. Low-income homeowners can get building materials at no cost, and materials are available at low cost for other repairs and improvements. Items come from a variety of sources. They accept excess or used materials as charitable donations and also salvage materials from demolitions, rehabilitations, and renovations of various buildings. They also accept materials accumulated during neighborhood cleanup events.

Materials available include: Lumber, roofing materials, doors (interior and exterior), windows, sheeting material, siding and guttering, caulking, nails and fasteners, hardware, electrical wire and accessories, plumbing parts and accessories, potable water lines, hot water heaters, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, insulation, drywall and accessories, cabinets and counter tops, molding, flooring, light fixtures, furnaces, carpeting, and tolls and equipment.

Home Recycling exchange has been in operation since 1992. They are located 1 block east of SE 14th and Maury at 805 SE 14th Court. Warehouse hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The telephone number is 282-9296 and the website address is www. homerecycling.org.
