Treasurer Report- Enrichment 5/2/03 Mr. Paccini (Story Teller thru instruments) Melissa mentioned liability for a violin a child had damaged at 9:15 that morning through Tara Read. Tara will let us know how much this repair will cost. Then we will make a decision on whether to use PTO insurance. Waiting for bus bill. Michelle informed us of the Crystoline (a winter fair company) billing us for the amount saying it was overdue when in fact they never billed us prior. Total profit was $1040.00. We all felt it was better if we did our own shopping for next time. The products were of poor quality. There is still one order left from the Yankee Candle fundraiser. Balance is approximately $7,400.00
Principals Report Thom mentioned 2 new awards he would like to see. 1. “Responsible Citizen Award” the 5th grade teachers would choose one student from their class. He asked that we give $100.00 to pay for 4 $25.00 gift certificates from Borders. If not he would be happy to pay. We all agreed that PTO would pay for this. 2. “Friend of Education Award” This award would be given to an adult volunteer. There would be no cost.
Thom was also impressed with the “Celebration of Learning” at Roosevelt School and would like to add this on for next school year. We all agreed. Julie Wallace has information from a previous year through a friend. There will be a similar event at Falls School at 6:30p.m. on Thursday evening.
Michelle McCrady is our $250.00 scholarship recipient. She will be added to the wall and also present on June 23rd for the 5th grade celebration.
Thom also mentioned how impressed everyone was towards our 5th grade students at the Middle School. They all spoke in unison saying the Community Pledge.
Christine Duquette is our new parent for the School Council. She was the only one who showed interest.
Julia Cecala a 2nd grade student had passed 2 weeks ago. We all agreed to have some type of living memorial with a plaque. Thom will call her mother Linda to see what her favorite color and tree/flower is. Melissa agreed to make a sympathy card and send to Anne Murphy for all to sign.
Thom was proud to announce that we will not be losing teachers from the budget cut. Windows will also be replaced in September with extra care. Classrooms will be moved when necessary
Playground A meeting will be held at Parks and Rec sometime next week to discuss the future plans of phase 2. Melissa says that benches and trash receptacles will be placed soon for families to enjoy. Thank you notes will also be sent.
Volunteer of the Year We agreed that Melissa would send an e-mail to everyone asking for a nomination. Later in the meeting we came up with 2 deserving people. Time and date of the volunteer gathering will be announced through e-mail by Melissa. Meeting place will be a Chinese Buffet in East Providence.
Relay for Life Julie is proud to announce that we have close to $4,650.00 which puts us at bronze level. At $5,000.00 we will earn a silver. We are very close. We should do it. The PTO agreed for her to order a banner for the school to use. We can also use it at the “Relay for Life” each year. She will get back to Michelle with the total cost.
Ink Cartridges Melissa will e-mail everyone with a date to prepare the boxes for shipping. Anne will contact Ginger to see where the labels are
