Go SLOW - 20 mph

Posted in: Westgate Taku

Please be cautious with warning people.  When I lived in Anchorage, speeding was a concern through the neighborhood, people were going 50+mph.  One neighbor contacted police about using a manacan to pull across the road when they saw a speeder. The police said that they would be liable for the damages.

So please think before you act.  I am 100% behind people doing the speed limit!

yes, there are people who don't slow down when they see kids, dogs, walkers, bikers, etc.  But legislating it not the answer, and 20 mph is way too slow. Kids have lived in this neighborhood for a very long time - no one has ever been hit that I know of, and most have played in the street at different times.  It's one reason we have opposed sidewalks - the streets are wide enough, even during heavy snow years, to that we can walk, bike, and kids can be in the road.  We are very much opposed to speed bumps.

Kids may not have been hit recently, but I've heard several storys about dogs that have been. (yes, people should keep thier dogs from wandering in the street, but they should also drive at speeds that let them react in time if an animal runs into the road.) If dogs are just animals and don't matter to you, then think of moose. Several wander the neighborhood, and if you hit one of them at speed, it might be you that doesn't make it home.

We live less than 100 yds from a corner, and people make it up past 30 mph in that small distance. I'm glad we don't live towards the middle of the block!

Here is the deal: Go 20-25 MPH in a residential neighborhood. If you want your freedom and rights to do what you want move out of town. I will chase you down and I will call the FPD if you are exceeding the speed limit continously. I have kids. They do not play in the road--ever--but do occasionally get the mail.  I so slip up (speed) sometimes myself, but excessive speeding is different.

Just be aware of where you are living. This is not "out of town" or "in the bush"  so please respect the guidelines.

They are not excessive for this neighborhood.

Thanks
