09-24-99 Defeat Broomfield; 2000

To another anon...

And the strategic planners met for over two years; and there was minimal talk about the county. Yeah, there were citizens from every ward, members of other committees involved, council members and the mayor. The complete list is in the library. And so is the plan. And so is the master plan and the names of the people who worked on it. The person who worked on the vision, the master plan, and headed the strategic plan is now a council member; she spent six years before going to council. She earned her seat through hundreds of hours of volunteer work; and I am grateful that Ann Crouse, upon her retirement, asked Colleen to run; I was at the council meeting when Colleen gave the history of her work and challenges through this entire process; and she received a round of applause. Truly an admirable person.

I think there were four or six meetings on Strategic Plan.

Most importantly; when the impact of a decision will affect everyone in Broomfield or moving to Broomfield, there was not one, not one public meeting on the feasibility study. No comment, no publicity, nothing. It went straight to state and communication between citizens (volunteers or not) changed. Why, if there was a concern for citizens, was it not part of the state ballot. Larry, George, Hank, and Bill had the opportunity to make this a home issue; with one little sentence; and choose not to do so. So it was never a BF citizen question; it was a state question. The community was redefined from citizen needs to Interlocken needs.
