Westown Block Watch

You?’ve proven that you are a hypocrite yourself stating in one breath that the author of the letter had no right to judge someone as a loser and then you state your judgment on the author as a loser. It strikes me that you made judgments on this author without first finding out what their intention was. The Bible states that GOD wants us to make right judgments. Judge rightly, not try and convict but judge rightly the child that wants your child to spend the night at their house. Judge rightly the teenager that will be giving your teenager a ride home after the movie. Judge rightly the person who knocks upon your door looking for some work to do.

I will take issue with your statement of ?“Granted we have an idea what ''drug paraphernalia'' could be used for......but as long as businesses are selling it, who are we to conclude what it used for.?” Who I am is a voting, tax paying American. I will not support businesses that sell smoking paraphernalia. I also know that there are businesses that sell pornography in the Westown Area. I will not make any assumptions as to what it?’s used for or stand in any judgment of the purchaser but will exercise my right to not patronize their business.

To the article writer of ?“Definition of a Loser?”?…although you may not be the most eloquent of writers, I think I understand your frustration. I have seen the decline of the neighborhood over the past few years. I have equally watched the growing membership of whiners and the declining membership of doers. I have chalked this up to my belief that someday I will stand in front of the Judge of Judges and He will say, ?“You did my bidding. Well done, good and faithful servant?”.

To those of you that are offended by the comments of this author because you truly have special needs that have kept you from being able to keep up your house and lawn, please know that the WWNA is interested in helping you. There are volunteers that want to help you. By helping you take care of your yard and needed house repairs, you increase your property value and they increase theirs. If you do not feel comfortable contacting the WWNA, you can also contact Neighborhood Services with the City of Phoenix at 602-262-7344.

In closing, I applaud Mr. Jenkins and wish that I felt comfortable posting my name. But in my fight against the blight of this neighborhood, I have become a target in the past. In this venue I chose to post anonymously but will re-state or discuss my posting openly face to face at any WWNA meeting.
The response back

Well I have to say your reply above average and helpful, your insult towards me being a hypocrite was not rightly judged. GOD is my light! Just cause I worded the ''loser'' issue wrong doesn't make me a hypocrite.

I do agree that the neighborhood has declined within the past few years and that is sad. And besides the input verbally towards the decay, what else is there left to do?

The response back ''reply''

I am responding to the above statement and many other statements made about this issue.

There is alot we all can do. It is easy to say the neighborhood has decayed or gone down. I don't see that. I see a neighborhood that has alot of people who care about it. I see alot of people who are involved in their neighborhood to make it a nice place to raise their families as in generations past. I see alot of positive people who see Westown as it truly is.
Unfortunatly there are people who are negative and when they have a problem they hide behind excuses on why it is wrong instead of working with their neighbors to make it right. In this world it doesn't pay to sit there and gripe about a problem because nobody cares. People only care when they fix it.
With all the energy I have experienced on this issue and MY article ''Definition of a Loser'' I wish I could experience the passion people have displayed in their efforts on the discussion page to help the few that are constantly VOLUNTEERING their time to help BETTER the neighborhood!
I am glad that we had some feedback good and bad about the article because that is what America is all about. I promise I will include another article for your enjoyment next issue.
Don't forget about the neighborhood meeting at Sahuaro School on Tuesday, November 18th at 7 PM. Some of the issues we will be addressing will be Alleys in our neighborhood, the annual Parade float and why the crime in our neighborhood has decreased(yes I said decreased). Certainly, not a sign of a decaying neighborhood. Did I mention the free food and drink and door prizes.
In closing, If anyone has knowledge of someone who isn't capable of taking care of their yard due to any circumstances besides laziness please contact Westown Watch Neighborhood Hotline at 602-234-6161 and let us know. The hotline is checked by volunteers often and we can assist by giving information on government grants, help organize cleanups with other neighbors on the street. Westown Watch is made up of volunteers who are very busy but do find time to volunteer to help others even though they have full time jobs, kids, yards and very busy schedules but are never to busy to help a neighbor in need.

Thank you,
