Westwood Neighborhood Association, Inc. celebrated its 25th Anniversary on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church - Westwood..
There were over 170 persons in attendance at the banquet. State Representative Johnnie Turner was our distinguish guest speaker for the event.
The theme for the banquet was “Looking Back, Moving Forward.”
Twenty-three honorees were recognized in various categories: past presidents: Mrs. Mary Jackson, Mr. Edgar Davis, Mrs. Ruth Hibler, Mr. Quincy Hathorn, Mr. Clyde Sanders, Mrs. Olor W. Hughes, and Mrs. Barbara Holmes; first Westwood Memphis Police Co-Act unit: Major Charles Moore, Major Stan Eason, and Lieutenant Tyrone Currie; community leaders: Ms. Opal Bowen, Ms. Beatrice Dye, Mr. Harold McRae, Mr. Art Matthews, Mr. Joe Moody, Ms. Lucille Richards, and Elder George Royal; students from area high, middle and elementary schools: Lucious Byrd, Chickasaw Middle School;Jaila Reed, Double Tree Elementary School; Deayrea Martin, Freedom Academy;Jermeisha Nance, Westwood Elementary School; and Enrique Smith, Westwood High
School.
Mt. Vernon Baptist Church was the recipient of the 2011 Community Service Award. Dr. James L. Netters, Senior Pastor, accepted the award.
Olor W. Hughes served as chairperson for the event, Jearlean Haynes served as Toastmistress, and Robert Gurley is the president of the association.
