If you are going to have homes built or in the process please remind the contractors not to throw their beer cans and other trash on the roads.
If your home is in the design stage here are a few quick tips off the top of my head that you may want to consider:
Be sure to check out you builder and make sure they are reputable. Do your homework!!!
Remember the sand when choosing your flooring. I am considering going with Saltillo tile instead of carpeting.
Consider a "mud room" where you can come in from outside to change your dirty cloths and shoes. You may want to have it near your washer and dryer. Remember, we do have poison oak and other things you may not want to bring into your family or kitchen area.
A porch or deck is almost a must. It is so nice to sit outside and enjoy the outdoors. A wrap-around porch is ideal.
A well-designed fireplace will help make the home cozy. Do your homework and get a practical fireplace.
Windows, windows, windows. You'll want to see the deer, turkey, squirrels, etc.
Try to position the house to get as much shade, especially in the afternoon, as possible. It will cut down utilities.
Choose the location carefully.
If you are going to build a fence be sure to look around and ask. Some designs may look nice but will not last long.
Remember all property improvements, fences, sheds, homes, etc. need to be approved by the Architectural Control Committee (ACC). Once the construction starts you have six months to complete it.
Drive around and look at some of the other homes. You will get a wealth of ideas.
If you burn we found it is better to dig a small ditch approximately 10-12 inches deep. This allows a very hot fire that burns everything completely. It also makes it safer as it is confined. Once the burning is over, the hole can be covered. We do it all the time it works great.
A detached garage or storage shed with an overhang to store a boat, tractor, or other items is a plus.
Make sure that you paint your oak trees when you trim them to control Oak wilt. It is a fatal disease for oak trees.
When all else fails or gets boring, turn off the TV and go outside and look at the stars and listen to just how quiet it is.
Drive carefully. Watch for deer and other animals.
