Community Court Comes to Whitehaven

On Tuesday, September 24, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the Environmental Community Court satellite office at 4225 Airways Boulevard. Judge Larry Potter of General Sessions Court,Division 14, will preside over the new Whitehaven Environmental Community Court.

The Whitehaven Environmental Community Court is designed to address code enforcement issues related to commercial, residential,and other code violations.

residents with an innovative approach to dealing with code violations at the local level.?”

The Whitehaven EDC has been chairing the Code
Enforcement Committee, which is an outcome of the
Brooks Road Task Force, a partnership between the
Memphis and Shelby County Airport Authority, Shelby County, local Whitehaven businesses, and General Sessions Court Division 14. The Code Enforcement Committee has been meeting since March of 2002 and is made up of city and county code enforcement officers, the South Precinct and private business owners.

?“The community court encourages citizens to get involved and actually view the process,?” states Judge Potter. Whitehaven?’s Community Court is open to the public and will be held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the
month at 1:00 p.m.
