The Whittier Neighborhood Association met with Nan Baker of the Sioux Falls Arts council and that is where this all began!
Sept - Dec 2012 - Community engagement activities which include (but not limited to) outreach by staff and neighborhood volunteers consisting of fliers, face to face meetings at organizations such as youth groups, churches, human service agencies, phone calls, social media and location publications. Additionally, the Arts Council will assist the Whittier Resident Neighborhood in a Call for local Artists and 20 Whittier Middle School students. We will continue strategic planning meetings with project partners. Collaborate with City on sight visibility and preparation for mual, bike rakes, planters and sidewalk inlays.

May-July 2013 Arts engagement activities - Artist lead workshops, Design & Implementation of mural and sidewalk inlays (56 day residency Dave Loewenstein) (14 days community meetings and research, 10 days design, 32 days of painting) (documentation by Nicholas Ward)
July 2013 Unveiling of the 18 X 150 feet mural and sidewalk in Whittier Neighborhood. In addition to the renovations the City is funding through capital improvement plans.
Aug-Dec 2013 Continue planning with project partners
Jan-May 2014 Recommendation of placement of Whittier planters and bike racks. Working with Sioux Falls Beautiful, local master gardners and County Extension Services Residents and school children select native flora. Conduct neighborhood engagement activities for planting planters.
