our streets are a thing of beauty what with the new asphalt and curbs, however,
before the finish coat of asphalt is even applied , I'd like to welcome you all to ''The Laurel Street Dragway'', and these bump outs are a slolom for the asphalt idiots-, they love 'em!!!don't take my word for it just check out the rubber marks. ok I admit it , I don't have the answer to it, but then again I just live here I'm not a municipal engineer.I'd hate like hell to see any one of our 50 dozen little ones get splattered all over our nice new asphalt cause some idiot has a throttle fettish. The police have taken a speed survey and found that the flashing 20 mph signs on south street are a joke.
lets hear some ideas (please, legal ones)it's really not something we can
take lightly.
thanks

Observations

We had the same problem on Downing Street when the bumpouts first went in. People would slow down out of confusion and then take the curves at full speed. Once people got used to them, though, it seems that traffic has slowed down and the slolam running has stopped. What I do still see is people making no attempt whatsoever to stay on the right side of the road (although this is a concord-wide observation).

Anyway, I don't have a solution to the speed issue, but I was thinking that if there is a way to get people to stay on the right side, then the bumpouts do what they should do, since you couldn't possibly take that curve at speed while staying in lane.
Maybe just those posts that you see in parking lots or ''yield to pedestrian'' posts like main street has? Things that could be pulled up during the winter so that plows can get through cleanly...
