Truancy and Gangs

Children on the Streets

Bill Haynes of the Charlotte -Mecklenburg Police works with the Gang Unit and TNT, a truancy watch group. He advises the neighborhood to be on the lookout for children that are walking the streets, especially when school is in session. They may be harmless, or they may be looking for meanness to get into. If you see a child or several (or adults other than the ones that live near) walking the streets, especially after dark, you can call 911 to get an officer to check them out. If you think the people will be gone before the police arrive, that is still okay to call 911. It will get an officer in the neighborhood and if the children see them, they will know that the police are around. Also, gang activity is going on in the Cedarvale Street area. There have been larcenies from autos and drug activities. If you see anything suspicious in our area, please don't hesitate to call 911 with any description you can give them. Perhaps it will put a stop to anything like that in our area. You can reach Bill Haynes at whaynes@cmpd.org.
