The City of Phoenix needs you...to be counted.
On April 1st, the United States began to count its citizens by mailed questionnaire. It was the largest count in the nation?’s history and important to every citizen. Why? Because every community receives federal funding for schools, transportation, and health services.
This month Census Enumerators are visiting households that didn't complete the mailed questionnaire. So if you didn't mail in your questionnaire (for whatever reason) and a Census representative visits your door, please be nice and provide them with information they need so we can be as accurate as possible.
Arizona?’s population is growing at an incredible pace. In just five years, Phoenix alone has grown from 984,000 to 1.15 million. That rapid growth puts a strain on our city budget and our resources. A correct count will ensure that Phoenix receives its fair share of federal funds.
In 1997, the federal and state government allocated more than $40 billion to cities and counties for basic services, including police and fire protection. That amounts to about $200 per person a year.
If we are unable to count everyone, we stand to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars. Worse than that, we may not be able to provide important services to our citizens. We need to count every Phoenix resident.
