Subject: Maintenance Corporation Billing Program

Dear Mr. Peters,

Thank you for your concern regarding the Maintenance Corporation Billing Program per parcel fee.  We appreciate your feedback on this valuable program.  During these trying economic times, the County is faced with ongoing financial challenges.  This fee is necessary to cover increasing costs of the program.  As you know, this program was created to offer a limited number of maintenance corporations professional assistance with billing and fee collection.  We provide this service as a convenience, though we are not required to do so by state or county code.  Unfortunately, this fee is necessary to cover the costs of providing this service, which would total more than $50,000.  Without the $6 per parcel fee, we will not be able to continue the program.

The per parcel fee will cover all the costs associated with the program.  This includes: printing invoices, postage to mail invoices, bank fees to collect payments, and fees to send periodic payments to the maintenance corporations.  The per parcel fee also covers county staff costs to run the program.  This includes: billing preparation, answering customer calls, system maintenance, and payment collection.

If you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact our office at (302) 395-5101 .

Yours,

Christopher A. Coons
