Greetings Neighborhood Watchers!
Reminder! Tuesday at 9:00pm @ the Clubhouse Front steps - Foot Patrol! Come out to meet your neighbors, discuss community security/safety concerns while walking the property. Bring your dog! Walks last about 30 minutes depending on how much we gossip :-) Everyone is Welcome and encouraged to attend!! Bring your walking shoes and a flash light if you want (but not required).
Next walk will be on Thursday.
I also received a great e-mail from the Orlando Police Department Crime alert, although it did NOT concern our immediate area, it had some great tips.
Recently there have been reports residential burglaries in the Colonial Town North area. The majority of the residential burglaries occurred during the daytime or early evening hours. Homes being targeted do not have alarms.
You can reduce your risk of becoming a victim by doing the following:
- Utilize your neighborhood watch.
- Secure all doors and windows, even if you are only going to be gone for a few
minutes.
- Activate a residential alarm system, if your home has one.
- Keep valuables in a secure location within the home.
- Report any suspicious activity or person(s). You, the resident, know what
activity is normal for your area. Call 911 when someone is acting suspicious.
- Be alert to your surroundings and get to know your neighbors.
- Write down serial numbers of important property.
- Utilize exterior lighting. (It only costs approximately $1.00 per month to
keep a porch light on all night!) Report non working lights!
- Participate in Citizens for Neighborhood Watch program.
- While away from your home for vacation or other reasons, forward your
telephone to a family member, have a neighbor collect your mail, put the garbage
curbside, and retrieve any newspapers/solicitations from your property.
- Make sure you have serial numbers recorded for the property that you own
