About Texas Information And Referral Network (TIRN)

The Texas Information and Referral Network was designated by the Texas Legislature as the program at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of a statewide information and referral network. The statewide network was created from existing community-based information and referral services.

Our goal is to provide seamless access to timely, accurate, and relevant health and human services information through greater awareness of available information and referral services and improved communications among service providers.

Our strategy includes two major components:

Area Information Centers are regional coordinators for gathering and maintaining comprehensive information about what health and human services are available in their community and they make up the 2-1-1 Texas system. 2-1-1 Texas is a single telephone number created to make it easier to connect to health and human services. You can now call 2-1-1 and be connected directly to your local Area Information Center for health and human services referrals. The 2-1-1 services are available throughout the entire state of Texas twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and can be provided in almost any language, including Spanish.

The Internet-based resource system is part of the website you are currently viewing. Our database is currently being enhanced and will soon offer you advanced search capabilities for services and programs across Texas. We anticipate our enhancement work to be complete by mid-summer, 2005. In the meantime, you may still find the in-depth help and information we offer by dialing 2-1-1 on your telephone.

More information about the Texas I&R Network can be found on our website at http://www.hhsc.state.tx.us/tirn/tirnhome.htm.
