I have just signed my son up for kindergarden at Summit and must say I am disappointed. I wanted to get other parents thoughts, experiences, etc. Both good & bad on the school. I may be considering private school ... If you aren't confortable posting, please feel free to email me.

Thanks very much for your help!
Not bad, just old...

There is a brand new high school (you should check it out, it is REALLY nice) the primary/elementary building is just a bit old, built in the 60s/70s (I believe)

A building levy passed a while ago, but the most recent operating levy failed so it slowed down the process of building quite a bit.

The teachers are great though, and they do a really good job with the tools available to them. And many of the parents are very active in the education of their children.

I have a stepson in the second grade and all of his teachers so far have been wonderfull.

The system just needs a little more support from the people who send their children there, instead of trying to ''show the school system who is boss'' parents should work with the school to better the educational opportunities for our growing youth, and realize the benefits from a minor tax hike will be better for your financial status and land value in the long run.

Okay, I'll step off my soapbox.

*UPDATE*

I just read on the licking heights website that they approved a motion (On april 19th) to ''Enter into a contract with Buddy and Kay Capuano for the district to purchase 15 acres, contiguous to the Summit Station school site, for 975,000 plus closing cost associated with transaction for the purpose of building a 750 elementary school''

Does not say when building will begin, but the motion has been approved to purchase the land for a new school.

new buildings

The district has had trouble passing operating levies but a bond issue to build new schools did pass and these are two separate issues. It will take a few years to get the buildings done. Usually from passage of an issue to completion of a building is approximately four to five years. They are in the stage of dealing with architects now. We still, however, need to support operating levies and get them passed or new buildings will be the least of the problems we have.
