The Houston Region Will Add 5,538,000 More Residents by 2035!!

This amounts to adding another city the size of Houston plus a city the size of Denver to Harris County alone, and a city the size of Los Angeles to the 8-county region surrounding Houston! The year before Houston celebrates its 200th birthday, the region will have 9,000,000 residents! Adding all these people and their cars, homes, jobs, schools, police, fire stations, stores and other needs will require construction of more than 5 billion square feet of new buildings! What impact will this have on our remaining green space? On our quality of life? Come see a Powerpoint presentation by current Woodshire Civic Club president, Rick Cagney, who works with the Gulf Coast Institute, a non-profit that conducts independent research on quality of life issues affecting the Houston region.

Please pay Your Civic Club Dues

Your participation helps fund the Constable Patrol Program, seasonal mosquito spraying, esplanade upkeep and various Civic Club programs and functions.

Woodshire, Westridge, Linkwood and Woodside Civic Clubs share the cost of the security patrol proportionately. Maintenance and landscaping costs of the Stella Link esplanade are shared by the Woodshire and Woodside Civic Clubs. Woodshire contracts separately for seasonal mosquito spraying.

These costs continue to increase while our dues have remained constant. So we need every Woodshire residence to contribute their dues and participate in the activities of the subdivision. Many thanks to the people who have generously contributed extra money to help the Civic Club.

It?’s not too late to contribute!

Please detach this portion and return it with your check in the amount of $100 made payable to the Woodshire Civic Club.

Woodshire Homeowners Get Tickets for Heavy Trash

Several homeowners got tickets from the City of Houston in March for confusing the city?’s Heavy Trash Pickup schedule. These homeowners mistakenly put their heavy trash out on the last Thursday of the month. Heavy Trash Pickup for Woodshire is the 4th Thursday of the month. June 2006 will have 5 Thursdays. Heavy trash pickup will be on June 22nd. Here are some other city guidelines.

Placement Instructions:
Heavy trash should be placed adjacent to the front curb in a location easily accessible to the collection vehicle between the hours of 6:00 p.m. the Friday before, and 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
Heavy trash material should not be stacked under low overhead electrical wires or other cabling, signs, or mailboxes; next to fences or posts; or on top of water meters, gas meters, fire hydrants, or other exposed utility components.
Materials should not be placed in the street, on the sidewalk, or other right-of-way, or in any manner which would interfere with pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
Heavy trash collection is limited to residential units and vacant residential lots only if the waste generated is in connection with the maintenance of the property.

Restrictions:
No more than 40 cubic yards of heavy trash may be placed at the curb for collection.
A maximum of four cubic yards of building material (not to include roofing shingles, brick, plaster or concrete) generated by the resident in connection with the maintenance of the residential property may be collected by heavy trash crews.
Appliances containing refrigerant must have a tag attached to them certifying that a qualified technician has removed the refrigerant.
The Solid Waste Management Department is not allowed to collect any material that was generated by contractors who were retained by a resident to perform work on his or her residential property. It is the responsibility of the contractor to remove all debris that may arise from the contractor's activities. These contractor-related activities include, but are not limited to: trimming and removal of trees, remodeling, new construction and roofing.
If authorized items placed for collection are mixed with unauthorized items, department personnel shall not be obligated to sort the materials and may refuse the entire load.
Solid Waste Management Department collection services are not available to multi-residential structures of more than eight units.

For more information on city trash pickup, recycling, and Heavy Trash Pickup policies please visit the city?’s Solid Waste Management Department Website at:

http://www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/index.html

Additionally our neighborhood is included in a pilot program to improve communication of pickup schedules. You can view this website at:
