Minutes

Call to Order at 7:07 P.M.

Board Member Role Call:
Present:
?• Graeber, Greenwood, Haas, Kingsley, Hill, McKiernan, Daniels, Norvell, Greenfeld-Wisner, Risch and Tolkoff.
Absent:
?• None

Approval of Minutes:
?• M/S/C, The minutes were approved with one correction, 1925 Pacific instead of 1923.

Treasurer?’s Report:
Jill Hill presented the budget report.
?• The balance was $5, 584.67
?• The unrestricted was $2,853,62.

Membership Report:
Nancy Risch gave the report.
?• There are 126 members.
?• 42 Members need to renew.
?• A membership contest is taking place from now until Christmas. The prizes will be two gift certificates.

CPAC
Alan Tolkoff gave the report.

?• 4 candidates were nominated for the RDA Board from CPAC. Diane Arnold received the Mayor's nomination. Two other applicants were also nominated by the Mayor, Terry Jensen and Vivian Tobias. All three were confirmed by the City Council. Vivian Tobias was also a CPAC member.
?• Pat West former city manager from the City of Paramount is now the Director of Community Development.
?• $200,000 for Code Enforcement was approved; however, representatives of Code Enforcement should be reporting to the CPAC meeting but have been no shows.

Christmas Tree Lane Report
Maria Norvell gave the report.
?• Volunteers are needed to help. Sign up for the following events and days:
?• December 10th ?– Parade Day
?• December 3rd, Work day, Meet at Hill and Daisy at 10:00 A.M.
?• December 9th, Contest Hill, Meet at B of A Bank 7:00 P.M.
?• December 11, 16, 17 & 18, Entertainment Nights with Santa

Community Planner Comments
No report due to absence of Jorge.
?• 1925 Pacific Avenue ?– (A storefront church) Application is not complete.
The next meeting of the Code enforcement committee shall be at 6:00 P.M. before the Wrigley Association General Membership meeting.

Public Safety Update
Noor Ismail gave the report.
?• Ms. Ismail distributed the monthly crime stats for the Wrigley area. Commander Kilmer was also present and spoke about safety issues. The FBI task force has been working with LBPD on gang problems. In an officer involved shooting, one of the LBPD Police Dogs was killed. A special service will be held. Program and Member Discussion:
?• John Cross of the Western Association discussed the BNSF Railway Project and encouraged residents to attend the EIR scoping meeting on October 6th at 6:00 P.M. at Silverado Park Community Center. The site is proposed to have 1 million lifts per year at the Container Transfer Facility.
?• Pat West, the new Director of Community Development spoke. He has been with the City for six weeks. He explained the structure of Community Development.
?• Assemblywoman Betty Karnett spoke about a program she is involved with, getting legislators in the classroom to explain what government is.

Old Business:
?• LNG: SES in holding information meetings in Long Beach. The next is Thursday, October 6th at 6-7 P.M. at the Church of the Nazarene, 2911 Santa Fe Ave. Joan attended one of the meetings. The EIR report is due to be released in October.

New Business:
?• Annie Greenfeld- Wisner gave an update regarding Pacific Avenue/Wrigley Village. A meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 20th at 2023 Pacific.
?• Liquor License for Sky Thai (2415 Pacific) was discussed. There were questions about the Wrigley Association position on liquor licenses. Alan explained the Wrigley Association's existing liquor/beer and wine policy, which includes that a restaurant must serve alcoholic beverages with meals and that food sales must exceed alcohol sales. The City Council has already opposed the license.

Council Comments
6th District: Laura Richardson
?• Councilwoman Richardson stated she opposed the liquor license for Sky Thai. She explained the procedure to obtain a license. She stated that the owners of the restaurant did not attend the hearing. Laura also said granting this license would set precedent that would compel the city to grant licenses to six other restaurants on Pacific. ABC says the area is has too many such licenses for the existing population. If owner wants a license, can buy a restaurant with existing license.
?• Little League is returning to Long Beach at both Veterans and MLK park.
?• The City Council will be reviewing Used Car Lots permits in Long Beach.

7th District: Tonia Reyes Uranga
?• The Councilwoman mentioned that the LNG report is due this month. She also told residents of the meeting on October 6th regarding the BNSF, which affect West side residents. The Councilwoman introduced two new staff persons. Karina A. Meese, Community Relations Aide Monique Johnson, Administrative Assistant.

Audience Comments and Announcements:
Questions were raised about the tree cutting on the 2800 block of Chestnut. Nothing is to be done until further review by the City.
