I'm interested to know everyone's opinion on what should be done to Todd Bertuzzi for his attack on Steve Moore, which resulted in Moore's neck being broken, a concussion, and several deep cuts to his face.

I think Bertuzzi should be, at the very least, suspended until Moore is able to return to the ice. However, you wouldn't have to twist my arm too hard for me to admit that I think he should be banned from the NHL permanently.

There are risks inherent to any profession and hockey players aren't naive to the fact that they're going to get slammed against the boards or lose a few teeth, but there's something called ethics. There's a fine line between roughing someone up to get a puck and assault with intent to do bodily harm. Intentionally sucker punching someone in the head and then driving their face into the ice doesn't just cross that line, it tramples over it like a herd of elephants.

Reports

I like the reports of how bertuzzi is so distraught over this. They have even reported that he tried to contact moore in the hospital. Just political wrangling, if you ask me. Of course he is distraught, he might go to jail, or even worse, lose his million dollar a year job. No one thinks their going to break someone's neck if you punch them, but you had better be prepared to pay the piper if you want to do such a cowardly thing like his sucker punch and face slam.

Bertuzzi should be banned for life. Set an example!
I agree

hockey is a rough sport but that was not necessary. It was a sucker punch, revenge for something that happened a month ago.
If he is allowed back to the game, it should not be before Moore is able to return to the game also.

Agree

Hockey has always been a rough sport, and the fights were some of the best highlights. But that was total thuggery. I think Bertuzzi is probably suffering genuine anguish over this, but I think it's cuz he realized he could have killed Moore. There have always been cheap shots - remember Chris Draper's shattered face? What Bertuzzi did was worse than all the incidents in Claude Lemiuex's career combined.
