Announcements
Visit the new WBA site at neighborhoodlink.com for minutes and upcoming events.
The next quarterly General Meeting will be held aboard the Diamond Jack on Wednesday September 27 at 6:00 pm.
The minutes from our previous meeting were approved.
Media. Barb Hawn distributed packets for advertising in The Ile Camera. Sandy Allen reported that the first Wyandotte Collection in The DN&FP Homestyle section is coming out this Saturday.
3rd Friday. The trolley has been full. September?’s theme is the Second Anniversary of 3rd Friday. We?’re looking for new ideas to support our new design (courtesy of Chris Neal). This month is the first time we will be sending out announcement postcards to a portion of the Club Wyandotte list. This month also marks the beginning of our ?“2nd Sunday?” series, which will run through the end of this year, at which time we will evaluate its success. The press releases have gone out for the art shows; there will be a sports artist featured at River?’s Edge and Chris Neal?’s work at CC Neal Art Gallery.
October?’s theme is Michigan Sculptors Guild, which should bring in lots of non-local traffic as well as local residents. November?’s theme is ?“Photo 2000?”, part of a national photography show. December?’s theme is holiday gifts. If you have any events planned, let Pat know right away. October?’s press releases will be going out this Tuesday!
Art Fair. No report. The wrap-up meeting was last week, so we should be receiving funds promised by the City within the next month. No decision has been made as to the fate of the old trolley, as there is an insurance issue involved.
By-laws. The committee is in place but is waiting for certain pieces of information to proceed with proposing revisions. The committee will meet within the next 30 to 60 days. If you have any suggestions/ additions/changes to propose, jot them down and give them to Marv.
Club Wyandotte. No report.
Fund-Raising. This Thursday at Smokies is the next scheduled committee meeting. The agenda includes Santa?’s Cottage and Christmas events. We need volunteers!
On October 11 the committee is helping out the RHS Alumni Club with the boxing match at Crystal Gardens. Ticket prices are still to be determined. Although this is a RHS event, the WBA will receive a portion of the profits if we provide volunteers to help at the door, collect tickets, and other duties to be discussed at the upcoming meeting. Debby Paducha sent around a sign-up sheet for volunteers. We will also be soliciting raffle prizes from WBA members. The event includes a 5-course meal, dessert table and full bar. We negotiated a deal Crystal Gardens for a sit-down meal, already a considerable savings over the Italian-American Club. The boxing event itself will be Michigan vs. Ohio and there will be more ringside tables available.
Marketing. Al Sliwinski stated there have been no meetings due to vacations. This Tuesday Al and Ann will be drafting a letter to DDA to request funding for the year. Jeff suggested some of the WBA membership attend the next DDA meeting to be held September 11 at 6 pm in the WBA office. Please submit to the office any articles mentioning Wyandotte that you may have.
Membership. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 6 at 1 pm at Smokies. All are welcome.
Old Business. The new Special Events Committee will be scheduling its first meeting soon. Committee members include Patt Slack, Jeff Olstein, Chris Neal and John Prohaska. Member input will be requested; bring your good ideas.
New Business. Carole Navarre announced that her daughter and son-in-law will be re-opening the Java Joe?’s coffee house, probably under a new name and possibly with a jazz motif. Congratulations and welcome! Carole also mentioned that the Tea Room has been ?“traveling?” to various Borders Book locations around town.
Traffic Jam and Wyandotte Hospital are completing details for the upcoming Fashion Show scheduled for Friday, November 3, from 11:30 to 1:00 pm. See Maria Dominguez for details.
Mark your calendars for the next General Meeting to be held aboard the Diamond Jack on Wednesday, September 27 at 6:00 pm. Details to follow.
Respectfully submitted,
Elayne E. Kremer
