Tried to reach our City Clerk Mr Griggs at 324-4563 who uses a power or an assit mobility chair, a wheelchair for his mobility needs to ask him the following:

1. Go across the street to the Owl Korner a business which has benefited greatly from all the free downtown improvements next to it on the plaza and try to go inside, try to wheel yourself inside this retail business?

2. From a drive bye you can see a 4-5'' riser or step that can not be naivigated by a mobility chair.

a door entry too narrow to enter with a chair!

You can see visually deteriating concrete broken and in disrepair at the footer of this entry way, and a door enter believed to be too narrow for a mobility chair or wheelchair to access and to go inside.

Once inside this ''Korner'', you can hardly turn around with a coat on.
The little shagy dog running around tripping you between your legs is also a problem, cute as a button its inappriopriate to bring the animal to the small cramped store.

Mr Griggs check it out, and ask yourself why is this small business allowed to NOT BE handicap accessible, and forget about trying to go onto her second level the stairs a walking person or a person of size can hardly get up thereas it is a straight verticle climb like a small mountian.

I do not believe even the Candidate can get up there if he wanted to.

What is the fire safty code on this structure.

You see Mr Griggs a lot of wheel spinning was done over the Cigar Cafe awning havig the words Fuente, or Pucnh Cigars on the lable on the awning requiring the owner change it.

When there are issues like the broken disrepaired brick and in accessibility that would prevent a homeowner from selling their private hiome and getting a Wyand COO something is WRONG at City Hall.

If Wyand is to be a Cool City, if it is to be...then people with mobility needs should be welcomed and able to enter these small business wghich are supposed to be, the Heart of Cool.

note; At the Cigar Store which hisses offf this Lady owner of the Korner you can roll right in and move around in a wheel chair easily.

Use his bathroom as a courtesy free easily open to any visitor in need.

This is not Cool, and Channel 4 Defenders can give the City some notariety in this regasrd if these obvious problems are not addressed.

We are waiting Mr Griggs, for your personal inspection and your reply.

Isnt that the city engineers job

I do believe the city stores should be up to code and be handicap accesible. Isnt that the city engineers job to enforce code violations and then i think it would also be the fire chiefs job if it was a fire code violation. I like the idea of going after businesses lets just go after the right people.
Ridiculous

It is absurd to say that The Owl''s Corner must be handicap accessible. I am handicapped AND a ''woman of size'' and even I can see that it would be impossible to provide room for wheelchair access in this little wedge of a space. Would you have this quaint little piece of Wyandotte chopped off from the block?

I wanted to make a point

To keiko to bark up the right tree. I dont think that every building in this city will be up to code at all times. Nut that is up to the city engineering office and the inspectors to police not mr griggs.
I like the owls corner building although i only go in there once a year. I know the people / owners would personally take care of everyone possible physically challanged or not. I think that corner helps make the wyandotte downtown a little bit unique.
