Yorktown North Maintenance Association

Block Watch Meeting - April 6, 2006

Apr 07, 2006

Present: Linda Duncan, Vicki Welch, Matt Welch, Bob Davison, Joseph Bryan, Gary Weyer, Allen Church, Hank Heisenbuttel, Melanie Heisenbuttel

Guest: Officer Cheri Bower, District Resource Officer

All five sections were represented - Old Towne Rd., Sam Drive, Old North Church Rd., York River Rd., Declaration Rd.

Linda reported the three events that have been reported to her and passed out Incident Report Forms to those present for their use and for the use of any neighbor who makes a call to the police. These reports are the basis of the log we keep of when police have been contacted and how police responded.

Officer Bower reminded us that our division is the second largest in population, covered at night by 12 officers who respond to calls according to how these are prioritized.

If we want to contact her, her number is 574-2135. If we need to call the police to an event, use 574-2111.

According to her data, the most common incidents occurring in our area include auto thefts, identity thefts from mail, kids loitering and bothering property at Yorktown Senior House, and day burglaries. Some kids spray-painted some road equipment, but the contractor caught them and turned this over to police.

She advised us to let neighbors know when we are leaving town, use Metro Call for cars parked on the street over 24 hours, and report to police when groups of kids are onto others' property.

Officer Bower informed us that the police will do a home security check for anyone who requests this. * She noted that burglaries do not occur where there is a dog not caged.

Requests were made for her to have police (1) periodically check the lake end of Old North Church Rd. for cars parked there and for monkey business occurring after dark by the lake and in the bushes; (2) have an unmarked car observe STOP signs being run from York River Rd. onto Sam and Old Towne.

We will resume our "late watches" Fridays and Saturdays, as residents are able to do this.

Linda will get a copy of Division 3 reports on-line and distribute these at future Block Watch meetings.

Adjourned: 7:55 p.m.
Next Meeting: May 4 - 7:00 p.m. - at Epiphany
