By Elena Dvorkina,
YMOC?’s Executive Director
Although YMOC has been functioning since 1997, the beginning of this year was spent in anticipation ?– waiting for the IRS approval of YMOC?’s non-profit status, which we finally received in April. Of course, first and foremost, I wanted to thank those of you who have been helping us in this tough period of the reorganization, whether by giving your time, advice, or financial support. We appreciate all the help, but specifically wanted to mention several people to whom we owe the most gratitude ?– Valentina Grabchenko, Rita Schwartz, Susan Frish, Dorothy Goodstein, Dan Lapp, Nina Shkrobor, Emilia and Greg Nisnevich.
I also want to thank the parents of our students, who have been so understanding of the challenges we were experiencing throughout this transition. Such understanding has helped us to not only successfully continue with our regular programs, but also to successfully conduct our Spring Music Festival. For the next year, we plan to further expand our programs, particularly through strong fund raising efforts. We plan to focus on higher recognition for our program. In addition, a strong focus will be placed on expanding our guitar and violin classes, continuing to maintain our work with the base piano classes.
In the next issue, we will publish the guidelines of applying for scholarships for our students. And, of course, as we become more financially stable, we will attempt to decrease the lesson fees in order to make music more accessible for everyone.
We will also introduce a new referral bonus structure into calculating the lesson fees. So, the more referrals a person brings, the cheaper the lessons will become. As always, we welcome and appreciate any ideas you might have to help us increase our student base.
I wish all friends of YMOC to have a great holiday season and a very happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Elena Dvorkina
