If you're thinking of moving to Ashburn you must absolutely avoid living in Cameron Chase!!! You won't' get anything in return for your HOA fees... no pool, no workout facility... so my suggestion would be to consider moving to Lansdowne, Brambleton or Broadlands in Ashburn.
The main reason I would NOT recommend moving to the Cameron Chase Community in Ashburn is because the HOA and their current board members are BULLIES!!!
My husband and I got approval from the President of the HOA to contact the head of the Architectural review Board to bypass an approval form to simply paint the brick facing of our house. This was approved by John Polishuk. Four months the President of the HOA begged us to consider repainting in a more neutral color as it was agreed John had made a mistake by approving the color we chose. The President and the HOA indicated that they would power wash, paint and include the trimming in a "do over" on they're tab.
We agreed and got busy picking out colors for approval... but this time followed a process. Once all signatures were signed and everything was approved... we get a letter stating that we had 60 days to complete or we would be fined $10/day up to 90 days.
Please read the correspondence that took place between the HOA Manager and us:

Mimi- no worries, go ahead and have them do the brick painting/sealing while they are out there. It is not a problem at all and we appreciate you taking the time and effort to care for these items.
thanks

Subject: FW: Cameron Hunt Place - Painting
Hi John,
Can you give me a ring or send me an e:mail back when you have a chance?
I'm nervous because I told the painters - that are painting our trim and replacing the rotting wood around our house - to go ahead and just paint our brick. I didn't want to loose them to another project and wanted the yucky dirty look of the brick to be covered up.
I hope that's ok... I'm just so nervous I'll get into trouble with the Architectural Board and wanted to let you know. I don't want to be in trouble. :(
Our house looks fantastic as a result... It's just what the brick needed.
Talk to you soon,
MC

Hi John-
After receiving a few notes and e:mails from our lovely Millenium Management regarding how dirty our brick was looking... Scott and I decided it was time to power wash our home.
After having our front brick power washed twice... We noticed that the red clay had absorbed so deeply into our brick that it was going to remain "dirty looking" permanently. We called several builders and contractors to get a better understanding as to what could remedy the situation.
We found out that our builder, HOVANIAN, did not perform the final process of Acid Washing and sealing this brick. Therefore the brick had become porous over the years ... Soaking up red clay and dirty. Not good. :(
We were given two choices in order to remedy the situation:
Acid Wash the brick
Paint the brick
By acid washing, it would kill every living thing in our yard and our neighbors... And change the PH balance in our dirt. We would also risk having our neighbors plants die. So this was not an option. Our only choice is to lightly paint over the brick to help remedy this problem.
Since moving into this home, my husband Scott and I have performed so many improvements. The house went from dingy looking to fantastic. I hope that the architectural review board will take everything we've done into consideration and approve our request for painting.
We would like to use the following colors on our house, keeping with the theme and over all look of the neighborhood:
BEHR COLOR CHART
Brick: Daybreak Sun ECC-11-1
Trim: ULTRA PURE WHITE
Shutters: Jet Black ECC-10-2
We would also like permission to make our front steps (in front of our door) into brick and stone. I'm getting estimates at this time for that.
Please let us know what the approval process involves. Please keep in mind that the painting is "medically necessary" for our house. :)
Thanks.
Your neighbors,
MC & SC
