Chris and I have been married for over 31 years. That in itself is quite a thing to boast about. We began our life together in Costa Mesa, moved to Anaheim, had our first son (his second), moved to Riverside (James Town), had two more boys and here we sit, with all children grown and on their own. Our oldest son, who has two children, ages 14 & 10, after 17 years of working non-stop is finally taking some time off to pursue some other interests, his wife taking on the role of main breadwinner. Our second son moved to Texas in 2005, with his wife and two sons, ages 9 & 5. He is missed everyday, as are the rest of the family. Our third son has FINALLY moved back to Riverside, after 11 years in Long Beach. SO glad to be able to see him more frequently, even if it means going to his place of work. Our youngest son lives in Corona, with his next brother up and a friend. All of the boys are doing exceptionally, in my opinion. The two youngest just returned from a climbing trip up Mt Shasta. Of the whole party, the two brothers and a 17 yr old boy in the party were the only ones to summitt. I am exceedingly relieved that they are home!
Some know, but most do not, about Molly's daughter born when she was 17. No girl should have to go through the circumstances surrounding her conception, the law is surely not convincing enough to deter the rapists who turn a girl's life completely upsidedown. But the upside of that scenario, is that Molly's daughter and she have been in touch and do periodically interact. She has two children, ages 15 and 11. AND she lives on the other side of the world in Michigan. One day, we will actually get out there and see her spread.
From before the boys birth to the present, we have always had a pet of some sort, ranging from birds, snakes, fish, cats and dogs. Even horses. Each of these animals has a story of their own, but this is our story, not theirs, so I will only speak of our current pet (who is really more like a daughter), our boxer, Lucy. Lucy became our family member by default, sort of by accident. By this time all of the boys had moved out, and we were declaring ourselves free agents when thse two totally scraggly, beat up dogs walked up the driveway. It has always been kind of a joke in our family, that no matter where we live, the word is out on the street that we are the easy touch and an animal is always welcome, at least temporarily, to a bowl of food and water, and in some cases a soft bed. The two travelers were no exception, and after being fed, watered and rested, one of the dogs started back down the street, while the other kept looking back toward us. In time, both dogs turned around and came back. We decided that since we didn't actually want any animals, we would take them to the humane society, in hopes that they would find a home. We took one dog to the Riverside Shelter and the other to the Corona Shelter, so they would be separated, no longer partners. Since the Boxer had grown fond of Chris, actually more like an appendage, we put a hold on her, in the event that the actual (unlikely) owners didn't claim her. Five days later, at 10 AM, we had another pet, and Lucy became and has been since, our very close friend.
