Forever Eastsiders

Both Bryan & I grew up on the Eastside. I grew up in West Meadowbrook, living right across the street from Oakland Park. I attended Meadowbrook Elementary. Bryan was brought up in Ryanwood, attending Atwood McDonald Elementary. We both attended the old Handley Middle School, but we didn't meet there. We actually met at Eastern Hills High School, where we both served on annual staff. I attended Meadowbrook Baptist Church growing up. Bryan attended Handley Baptist Church. Bryan attended UTA, majoring in Finance. I went to Baylor University, where I received my BA in American Studies, and pursued my MA there as well, also in American Studies. Sic 'Em Bears! We bought our home, a 1920 bungalow on Scott Avenue, in 1992, which we have been lovingly restoring ever since.

Employment

Bryan is a Commercial Lender for EECU Credit Union. He has been in banking for over 25 years, having spent the majority of that time on the retail side with Bank One (now JP Morgan Chase). Bryan's avocation is football officiating. He is an umpire by position. He has been in football officiating for 17 years. He is a college football official, having officiated for the Lone Star, Southland, Sunbelt, and CUSA. In fact, he had his first bowl game in 2006 at the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco. I began my career as a technical writer. I worked for Texas American Bank (now JP Morgan Chase), Cap Gemini, Hughes Training, Columbia Consulting, LTV, and EMC Mortgage. I worked at EMC Mortgage (Las Colinas) for 11 years, where my job duties expanded to include supervising the Training and Organizational Development Departments. I joined Carter BloodCare in June 2005, where I serve as their Director of Corporate Education.

Community Involvement/Hobbies

I have served as WMNA newsletter editor for about 11 years, and I also served on the WMNA Advisory Council for 10 years. In addition, both Bryan and I served as Neighborhood Policing District #5 Comunity Advisory Committee President for a number of years. We both went through the Citizens Police Academy (very interesting!), Code Blue COPs training (where we served as extremely active patrollers for about 6 years) and Urban Search training. I also have been through Code Rangers training (Code Compliance). I had the great fortune to go through the Leadership Fort Worth program, and I had the great honor to be selected as East Fort Worth Citizen of the Year in 1997. I am also very involved with Baylor University. I serve as a Bear Hunter (alumni recruiting high school students) and as a member of the Tarrant County Baylor Women's Council. My community interests revolve around quality of life issues such as historic preservation/ renovation/restoration, protecting our parks, code compliance abatement, maintaining the character of our homes and neighborhood (fighting incompatible in-fill housing), cracking down on slum landlords, creating effective neighborhood traffic plans, correcting single-family home zoning (changing it from B to A-1), crime & safety issues, and ensuring that our area gets the kind of retail development and shopping choices we deserve to have. I am a regular blood donor and a registered bone marrow donor. Give the gift of life - give blood! Bryan and I love to travel, and football provides us with some of those travel opportunities. Our favorite places include Hawaii, Lake Tahoe, New England in the fall, Yosemite, Oregon, and California (San Diego, San Francisco, Monterey, Carmel, & Sonoma/Napa). When we're not working on our home (inside or out), we enjoy Turner Classic Movies, grilling out, and sipping a glass of wine. We have two Dalmatians, Pepper and Bowser. We have been members of Travis Avenue Baptist Church for over 20 years.
