I have lived and worked in Crescent Hill off and on for the past 45 years or so. Had an apt. on Keats and a better one on Hite Ave. My son was born when I lived at 2119 Frankfort Ave. My sons mother and I had a house at 210 Hillcrest. Bought a really old house on Brownsboro Rd. at the end of State St. Presently I'm living at 151 N. Birchwood Ave and been here for the past 3 years or so.
Work I have done in Crescent Hill: Fixed hair at Lilians beauty salon on Frankfort Ave next to Ward and Brooks barber shop. Bartended at night club across the street from the White Castle on Shelbyville Rd. for for 3 different owners. Cleaned uo over 10 sectiions of the city after the 74 toronado. Cut and trimmed many trees in all areas and tore down a buch of buildings as well.
Presently I am running for the School Board in District 2 because our schools are failing us. We live in the greatest country on earth and we are way down on the totem pole worldwide on education. Here in Louisvile we are even lower in grades than the rest of the State. No its not because of the money ; because the more we spend the less of an education our children seem to get. In 1975 we bused 10,000 students for court ordered busing. This year we 960 busses picking up over 70,000 students and busing them out of 96,000 students. It is time to END THE BUSING and get back to neighborhood schools. Take the MONOPOLY of our children and shools away from the educational elite and back to treaching the basics. Humans have been teaching children how to read for over 3.000 years; for the passt 70 + years our schools have been declining. Yes i have seen it happening when I was in school and I am 71.
We need to CUT THE WASTE and lower Taxes; not raise them again. To help the teachers teach and not tie there hands. We need more parental involvement as discipline in the schools as well.
I may not be all that smart, but I do know how to read and I can usually comprehend what I read. If ELECTED I will work hard with the other Board members and do my best to help get our schools teaching again.
Any help or suggestions that anyone can offer I'll gbe happy to consider. I can be reached at 713 0438 or 6147039. My email is g_tolhurst@yahoo.com.
P.S. We really need to look at the fluoridation issues as well.
