I, Patty Fisher was born & raised on the East Side of Chicago. The building I live in was built in 1882 & was the first Police Station. The building on southwest corner of 106th & Avenue M was the Fire Station.
Education, well I started out at Jane Addams, went to St. Francis de Sales, then to Gallistel Elementary over to George Washington High School and finally getting a dual High School diploma from Metro & Washington High Schools. My college list starts at Chicago Teachers College then on 63rd & Wentworth, which turned into Chicago State University. From there I went to Olive-Harvey, then to the University of Illinois and completing my education at Calumet College of St. Joseph.
During my life I have had so many different types of jobs from camp counselor at day camp to a Business Analyst at IBM. Currently, I'm the Founder & Executive Director at Knowledge Hook-Up, the nonprofit 501 (c) 3 community technology center at the beginning of our block on the southwest corner of 106th & Avenue N. KHU works with the schools, churches, social workers and other community agencies to help educate our neighbors and have a safe environment to learn English as a Second Language, GED in Spanish, Basic PC & Internet Literacy in English & Spanish. We have special training class for children and help enploy them during the summer months. We are also teaching the Dispabled from South Chicago Parents & Friends, Basic PC Skills, Internet Access & Microsoft Professional. All classes are currently free.
Finally, our neighbors are putting together a Block Club, so we know each another & can watch out for one other. Our last two Block Parties were a great success and that's because of our neighbors.
