78th PRECINCT COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
The Community Council is a non-partisan group which meets with police
officials to exchange mutual views and seek ways to solve local problems. The78th Precinct Community Council meets the last Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the 78th Precinct station house.

Programs/Initiatives
OPERATION IDENTIFICATION
The New York City Police Department is currently engaged in a highly
successful property identification program. Items of value, such as radios, televisions, etc.., are engraved with the owners identification number, and registered with the Police Department. The engraving tool and decals are available at the command. This service is offered free of charge.
COMBAT AUTO THEFT (CAT PROGRAM)
Registering your automobile into the CAT program authorizes the
Police to stop your vehicle between the hours of 1 A.M. and 5 A.M. for the purpose of determining if the vehicle is stolen. Call P.O. Pinedo for details and an appointment.
V.I.N. ETCHING PROGRAM
V.I.N. etching is a process that permanently etches your vehicle
Identification number into the glass of your automobile. If the car thief attempts to remove the numbers from the window, it will leave a scar and make it difficult to sell the glass or auto. This might entitle you to a discount on your car insurance, contact P.O. Pinedo for details and an appointment.
BICYCLE REGISTRATION
Bring your bicycle into the Precinct and we will engrave it and
register you into the program.
COMMUTER C.A.T. PROGRAM
Similar to the C.A.T. program, this program was designed for
commuters who park their car during the day time hours (10 A.M. to 4 P.M.).
H.E.A.T. (Help eliminate auto theft)
Persons over forty years of age register their car with the Precinct,
a younger person driving the auto will be stopped and questioned regarding the use of the auto.

TRUANCY PROGRAM
This newly established program has already shown progress in
returning truant youths to school. Two officers are assigned to the truancy auto, and they coordinate their efforts with the local School District.
SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM
The City of New York administers a seven week program of part time
work experience and job counseling to the Cities disadvantaged youth between the ages of fourteen and twenty one.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM
This is a program, run in cooperation with the Victim’s Services Agency
and The District Attorneys Office to provide professional counseling and social service follow up in cases involving Domestic Violence. Two police officers and one sergeant are assigned to the 78th Precinct and can provide referrals to victims and family related offenses. For questions or referrals contact P.O. AUXILIARY PROGRAM
The Auxiliary Police consists of men and women seventeen to sixty
years of age, who patrol their neighborhood in uniform and act as the eyes and years of the Police Officers on patrol and assist in community functions. Anybody interested in volunteering their time should contact P.O. Giordano at 718-636-6425.
BLOCK WATCHERS
These are concerned citizens that keep a watchful eye on their block.
When criminal activity is observed they report it to the police using a code, keeping the call anonymous.
YOUTH COUNCIL
The youth council is open to all youths in the Community between the
ages of thirteen and twenty one. The purpose is to open lines of communication between them and the local police. Constructive projects get them involved in a community based civic association at a young age.
STREET NARCOTICS ENFORCEMENT UNIT (SNEU)
Works actively with the community to combat street level drug dealers. If you have information in regards to drug activity, contact 718-636-6491. CALLS CAN BE ANONYMOUS AND ARE STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL.

COMMUNITY POLICING – BEAT OFFICERS
The 78th Precinct has 3 Beat Officers. These officers are available to
answer all questions or to refer complainants and complaints to the appropriate agencies. Call anytime and make an appointment to meet your local Beat Cop at 718-636-6478.
TRAFFIC SAFETY OFFICER
P.O. Ascencio can assist in questions regarding traffic safety issues
and problems. Any questions in regards to traffic conditions, signs, lights, etc. can be answered by calling 718-636-6479.
SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS
Provide a valuable service to the community. They help children in the
neighborhood cross streets in a safe and orderly manner. School Crossing Guards are members of the NYPD, work part-time, receive benefits, and work within their neighborhoods. For further information contact P.O. Ascencio at 718-636-6479.
EXPLORERS PROGRAM
A division of Learning for Life for young people (male and female)
fourteen to twenty years of age who are interested in first hand career
exploration in Law Enforcement. The intent of Law Enforcement Explorers is todevelop social and leadership skills by fostering discipline in order to build character in youth and to help create an appreciation of the commitment to the value of public service. SENSITIVITY TRAINING
The 78 Precinct has actively engaged in sensitivity training during
Roll Calls and training sessions. With the help of qualified speakers, the 78 Precinct has been able to equip it's officers with a sense of understanding and sensitivity to various groups and causes they might encounter during the performance of their duty.
