16th Lane Block Watch

16th Lane Update

May 29, 2001

Dear Neighbors,
It has taken a lot of work and time to help keep our neighborhood safe and sound. Like all neighborhoods, we are not without our problems though. But, all in all I think as a neighborhood we've done pretty good.

Constitution Neighbors At Work just won another award from the Neighborhooods That Work Program. May 15, 2001, our neighborhoood organization won an award from the city of Phoenix for continuing safety and well being for our community. With the challenge of constant changes in our population we focused on sustainabilty. We analyzes the program that we had in place that could be continued and have the greatest impact on neighborhood improvements and population.

Deer Valley Wake Club. Two of our Block Watch groups applied as a partnership for a City of Phoenix Neighborhoods Block Watch grant in January of 1999. The grant was awarded in June of 1999 for a period of June 1999 through June 2000. This grant was unique as it was partnered between and educational institution and a Block Watch organization. Now there is more community involvment and the neighborhoods get to be more aware of where the funds are used for their children.

Patroling in our neighborhood has kept most of us busy on weekends and I am happy to report that it has and is still working. More people wave as we go through the neighborhood. A more friendly "neighborhood" sense of partnership is evolving. If anyone is interested in becoming a Block Watch or PNP (Phoenix Nieghborhood Patrol) person, don't hesitate to contact me or CNAW for more information. United we can have a nicer neighborhood. Without the help of all of us we will not continue to enjoy our neighborhood.

Until next month!
