The East County News names Ken Turner one of the Top Ten Most Intriguing & Important People of 2001. Read the article below:

For years, Ken Turner of the 82nd Avenue Business Association has been a force in East County's urban development projects. As a businessman who appreciates a robust, healthy local economy, his understanding of how small, privately-owned businesses enhance community services (by supporting the county's tax-base, and thus, a great many things some residents take for granted) is important to East County's progression through these turbulent times.

Turner sits on the Lents Urban Renewal Advisory Committee, and has been actively involved in Lents' Project Advisory Committee and the alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Associations.

What makes Turner a pick for 2001, however, is the initiative he's taken upon himself in forming the I-205 Corridor Light Rail Coalition, an attempt to get more residents and business people directly involved with the decision making process that shapes urban development.

As Ken isn't known to gripe about contentious projects on the heels of their completion - as many residents did when the first Airport MAX rails were lain - it appears as though he is only, if subtly, encouraging others to follow his lead by getting personally involved with the inevitable development of I-205 MAX.
