ACCION Texas now extends its lending service into 19 more counties. Loans will now be made in the Colonias, low-income settlements where residents will be assisted to strengthen the infrastructure of Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, Willacy, Dimmit, Kinney, LaSalle, Maverick, Uvalde, Val Verde, Webb, Zapata and Zavala counties. This expansion was made possible with a grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). ACCION Texas received $600,000 for its lending programs to marginalized entrepreneurs who want to start up or grow their small businesses.
To expand its services to microentrepreneurs, ACCION Texas launched the Micro Marketing Resource Center in San Antonio in November with a grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Participating clients are assisted with assessing their markets and developing strategies to help increase their business volume and customer base. A Marketing Consortium comprised of marketing and advertising practitioners from the community serve as expert advisors and provide guidance to interns who assist microenterprise owners in developing marketing plans.
