A Many Splendored Association

One of the most enduring organizations in lovely Laurelton, Queens, New York, The African Christian Teachers is a 501(c)(3) family foundation dating back to 1967 and founded by director Etta May Ladson. Its focus is public education in the New York City community where it honors both God and country. Its commitment is to education that underscores the inexorable leadership destiny of African Americans in New Africa, America.

A Many Splendored Staff

The association owes its longevity to Christian teachers from the arena of public education. Staff pictured within our pages are typical of the many who have faithfully underwritten our outreach across 36 productive years. They include, seated left to right, Etta May Ladson, Director, Anna Ruth Austin, Honorary Chair of the association's prestigious Awards Program, and, standing, Zelma E. Lewis, soprano, (now deceased). Ms. Ladson is the holder of 3 degrees and is the poet/ author of ''Strange Land Songs,'' a text of sonnets celebrating African Americans and women. Mrs. Austin is a former high school counselor, and Ms. Lewis is a former member of the Metropolitan Opera Company.

A Many Splendored Student Body

The great love of the association is its student constituency from across the metropolis. Year after year it seeks out the best and the brightest to cover them with praise, primarily by conferring upon them The African Christian Teachers Award.. We invite you to meet them and the other splendid staff and philanthropists who assemble to celebrate our task annually. We happily present them in the pages that follow.
