Our mission is to provide a premier college preparatory program affirming the worth and dignity of each individual. Our programs will emphasize moral and spiritual values consistent with Christian principles, appreciation for cultural diversity, and development of social responsibility in a nurturing environment.
For decades, the families and students of Oahu's North Shore have only been able to gain a quality high school education by making the tremendous sacrifice of long commutes and high tuition costs to attend schools in Honolulu. Parents seeking a quality co-educational high school education continue to drive or bus their children as far as 40 miles to these schools outside the community. We intend to relieve the burden on these families and students and create a school on the North Shore. In the process, this new high school will improve the rural North Shore communities by returning the vitality and resources of these families that are currently being directed towards private schools in Honolulu.
The school is in the planning and fundraising stage, with phased build-out and enrollment leading to a full four-grade high school. The school expects to open with Grade 9 in the fall of 2005, rolling out with additional grades each year.
A comprehensive feasibility study was completed in 1997, supported through a grant from the Hawaii Community Foundation. Dole Food Company Hawaii has granted a long-term lease for the new campus on approximately 15 acres at Thompson's Corner at Waialua. The City has approved a zoning change and Special Use Permit, and design of the school facilities is in progress.
A Capital Campaign drive is currently underway and is seeking three million dollars to fund the project. Financial, volunteer and in-kind support from the community will certify our commitment as we pursue grants from individuals, private foundations and corporate friends. As a non-profit organization, donations to Aloha ke Akua High School are tax deductible.
Aloha ke Akua High School will provide a rich program of education for high school students in preparation for entrance to a four-year college education. The academic curriciulum will be centered toward strong development of secondary level reading and writing skills, mathematics, religion, natural science, language and computer literacy. Art, music and athletic programs will be offered to provide a diverse, well-rounded high school experience.
Aloha ke Akua High School is a private co-educational school organized as a not-for-profit corporation. The governance structure of the new high school is operated under the direction of a self-appointed Board of Directors from the local community. The Board is directing the financial affairs of the new high school, including planning, fundraising, development and school operations.
The name chosen for the school, Aloha ke Akua, is taken from the Hawaiian language, with the short meaning being ''God is Love''. An accurate full name of the school in Hawaiian would be: Kula ''Aloha ke Akua `o_Waialua'' or ''School of God's Love at Waialua''.
