In 1951, controversy arose in the neighborhood. At this time, a gravel pit stretched from Minnetonka Boulevard to the western edge of the Aquila Neighborhood to Utah. The owner shipped out gravel on the train that traveled on the west side of the property.
The gravel pit owner wanted to erect a factory on this site, but opposition from the residents forced him to drop those plans.
Within 2 years, Aquila Park was formed. In 1957, the school district built Aquila school on the former gravel pit site.
