The Annual Election meeting held Tuesday, April 11, 2000 was a huge success. There was pizza and pop for all, the kids had a great time playing, all of the tables were full of people at the Aquila Primary Center, and we got a lot of business done.
The neighborhood also voted to change the structure of the board of the organization of the association from a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and At-Large Board member system to a Chair, Co-Chair, Treasurer, and event-based committee format.
Lisa Cherches, the past association President, was elected as the Chair, and Shirley Olson as the Co-Chair. Many people indicated interest in certain activities and at the June meeting we look forward to continuing the plans for our summer picnic, fall hayride event, etc.
We have a great line-up of activities planned. Our neighborhood will be participating in the Parktacular parade ?– come on out and march! The neighborhood garage sale will be August 5th so save that date. Put your house on the list and enjoy increased garage sale traffic due to the fact that it is a neighborhood sale. You keep all of your proceeds and just pay a small registration fee to the neighborhood. All of the advertising is all done for you. We also have plans for developing a neighborhood website with a link from the city webpage, coordinating ?“welcome baskets?” for new residents, volunteering with planting flowers in local parks for the city, etc. The neighborhood also decided that individual blocks, if interested, could celebrate national night out. Maybe you would like to coordinate it for your block or become a block captain.
There was also a Knollwood meeting update. Our city council representative, Sue Santa, attended the meeting and stated that Knollwood architects were in the process of drafting plans for the screening barrier for the north side of 36th street between Knollwood mall and the neighborhood, and that the plans would be brought to a future neighborhood meeting for discussion and review.
I have enjoyed serving as the neighborhood vice-president in the recent year. I look forward to seeing you at neighborhood events and hope to contribute occasional news articles to the newsletter. If you have an idea for an article, go ahead and write one! The newsletter always welcomes submissions.
