We live  in South Louisiana, at this latitude a white mailbox will be hot in the summer, but a black one will be an oven! The mailboxes sit in full sun (no tree-lined streets). If you receive prescription drugs, photographic supplies, or other heat sensitive materials by mail, they could be severely damaged by heat. I think this black mailbox idea needs to be revisited!

Here's a simple experiment to prove the validity of the above.

On a sunny afternoon (few clouds, no overcast), place your hand on one of the white mailboxes; then place your hand on a black mailbox. Be careful with that last step - you may burn yourself!

Today's newly developed subdivisions have BLACK mailboxes and do not complain of the heat-sensitive issue.  If you receive such materials, perhaps you should revisit your situation and have these materials delivered to your door.  The association members have spoken - the ones in attendance at the association meetings voted on this issue with the Board's approval.  The restrictions were followed, as this issue was put to the vote with the majority in favor of the BLACK boxes.  The subdivision would look more attractive with the boxes one consistent color.  Thanks for your input.  We would love to see you at the meetings.

By the  way, if 20 people show up at a meeting, then 11 people can decide what line the other 77 members have to toe. This is hardly a democracy - more like an oligarchy. Your thinking would be applicable to a representative form of government (which this not - each person only represents him/herself). Besides, if something is up for a vote, this should have been placed on an agenda and properly promulgated beforehand.
