BWMT-Milwaukee

Welcome to the ''New'' Bwmt-Milwaukee

Feb 18, 2000

BWMT-Milwaukee was founded in the early 80s by Alan Hess and Tony Brown. The chapter grew rapidly, even hosting a national convention in Milwaukee. For various reasons, the group had dwindled in recent years, and has been held together as a bare bones "legal chapter" of the National BWMT by D.A. Leonard. But in the late 90s there were no more meetings or events.

In August 1999, D.A. was contacted by Peter K. who had not previously been involved, and who was willing to put up a website. This proved to be the kick that got the old horse moving again. And here we are.

We will be primarily a social outlet for our members. In its previous incarnation, BWMT-Milwaukee had gotten very involved in political action - and this seemed to turn off many members. We will not make that mistake. If individuals, even individuals working together, wish to engage in political activism, they are certainly free to do so.

But BWMT-Milwauke itself is here to be a safe place for each of us where we can feel at home among our own - a place, as James T. puts it, "where being gay is not an issue", and "where interracial relationships are not an issue" - we can take all that for granted and just be friends among friends who understand one another.

Besides our meetings which are very informal, we will have varied social events. Recently some of us got together for Superbowl Sunday (what a finish!) and also for a group trip to the Black Holocaust museum, and for dinner outings.

In the future there will be hikes, picnics, and outdoor barbeques. Pot luck dinners, dinners out, theater nights, movie nights, field trips to BWMT events in Chicago, a booth at Gay Pridefest, and more. Come and relax and be at home!
