Bahia Honda Key begins at mile marker 37 and is just north of Big Pine Key. The island is virtually undeveloped, but it is the home of the beautiful Bahia Honda State Park. The Bahia Honda bridge, pictured here, was originally built for Flagler's Railroad. After the railroad was destroyed in the 1935 Hurricane, it was converted to use for automobiles and other vehicles. The new road had to be built on top of the original structure because the area where the railroad track ran was not wide enough to accomodate two lanes of traffic. The bridge is no longer in use.
