When formed in 1965 and incorporated in 1975 the purpose of the BCA was to combat inner city decay, and to promote historic preservation through maintenance and physical improvement to the public areas of Belgravia Court.
Although the success of preservation and redevelopment has basically removed inner city decay, the maintenance of public spaces and improvements of an urban neighborhood are necessary and consuming tasks. The BCA maintains, landscapes, irrigates, and lights two city blocks of walking court in Old Louisville. Funds are raised during the St. James Art Fair by renting booth space to artists and by running the Beer Booth. (We also sell hot chocolate or lemonade depending on the weather.)
Membership in the Belgravia Court Association is free to all residents of the Court, and to owners of apartment buildings located on the Court. The BCA is a member of the Old Louisville Neighborhood Council, a founding sponsor of the St. James Art Fair, and a funder of the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival and the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum. The BCA builds community spirit and fosters a welcoming environment through, social events, court-wide work projects and emotional support for neighbors in need.
Social highlights of the year include the Mini-Marathon Jazz Band party, the 4th of July picnic, the annual Progressive Dinner, and the Winter Solstice party.
