Belle Forest Condominiums in Bellevue is a property that is rich in history. Built as apartments in 1968, Belle Forest was part of a larger planned community which was to include condominiums, town homes and single family homes, all centered around a golf course which was already located across Old Hickory Boulevard at what is now Belle Forest Circle (The original clubhouse can still be seen there, built in the same old world Mediterranean style as Belle Forest).
Belle Forest operated for the next ten years as luxury apartments. Then in 1979 Belle Forest was redeveloped into a condominium community. With spacious floor plans and 44 beautiful acres, Belle Forest had a reputation of being one of the more luxurious developments in Bellevue.
Through the years Belle Forest’s reputation for excellence attracted a host of well known celebrities. Country Music great George Jones maintained a residence for a time at Belle Forest, as did Merle Haggard. A young John Tesh, best known as co-anchor of the highly rated show “Entertainment Tonight” and who later went on to make his mark as a musician in his own right, chose to live at Belle Forest, as did a young Oprah Winfrey in the early days of her career.
But Belle Forest’s connection with celebrity goes back even farther. The land upon which Belle Forest is built was once a farm that belonged to the legendary Kitty Wells (the first female “super star” in Country Music) and her husband Johnny Wright. Kitty and Johnny often entertained friends here at their “weekend home” and even had a small lake constructed for their pleasure. That lake still exists at Belle Forest today and is recognized by the city of Nashville as Lake Hubbard.
Today the Homeowners at Belle Forest have a renewed vision of what this property is and what it can be and they are making giant strides toward restoring Belle Forest to being a prime property and a coveted community.
