Could the budget be posted on the home page under Documants and Pages sitting right there as obvious as a budget on a home page?
I was informed by email that the budget is on this website in PDF form. I am still looking for it. I surely wish it were more obvious.
What is the :Go Button" that tells the plow man to plow? He plowed this year with a skiff of snow and a 1/4 inch plus of ice, but several inches of snow remained on the streets last year for several days before the plow came through. Yes, I know "another person working for the contractor came through" but he didn't lower the blade down to the snow. . .
Also was informed that the "Go Button" is 2 inches of snow. If you need two inches of snow removed from the streets, raise your hand. Next question: If there is a sheet of ice under the snow from freezing rain or sleet that preceded the snaowfall, should the street be plowed leaving a sheet of ice for us to slide on?
Is the contract to plow the streets a bid item? What are the performance specifications in the contract? Is the contractor liable if he damages one of the speed humps on Bellemeade Road?
I will not publish the answer I got to this one.
I think our City Commission does a very good job, but I also think a lot of us do not know how good because there is an information shortage. Yes, I know that we could come to the meetings to hear what goes on ..... actually that is not true because that meeting room is overcrowded with 12 people in it. It would be much simpler if this site were used to advise and inform. True it might take a moment to adapt it to our needs, but after that it should be a valuable time-saving source of information.
I also think that some of those old long-standing procedures should be scrutinized to determine if there is a better, more cost efficient (and possibly more legal) way to serve the residents of Bellemeade. If my comments appear to be critical, please look at them as they were intended - constructive criticism. I don't have to remind anyone that our economy is sick, thereby requiring much more diligent use of what money we have. That diligent use should include both the decisions to spend the money AND the oversight afterwards to insure that we are getting what we pay for with that money. If we are, good! If not, change it - QUICKLY!!
