STOP1111

Posted in: Bellemeade - Bellemeade

Thank you for your kind comment.  I took some video today at the stop signs just to see what percentage of the drivers stop.  Only 15% come to a full legal stop, slightly more than 60% make a "Califirnia" stop.  Bad news is 25% do not stop at all.  The offenders  I have on video were a red Mustang convertible with a brown top, a black Accord, a dark green Explorer,a blue Explorer,  a black Mercedes, a black Lexus, a white Lexus, a white Camry, a white Accord, a white Kia, a white Hyundai,  a silver Mitsubishi, a Papa John's delivery car, a towing company wrecker, three lawn care truck and trailers, a plumbing company truck, several red cars the size of a Civic,  Seven of the offenders are Bellemeade residents.

You didn't mention my car as I didn't stop at least once a day.  I seem to stop coming in from Shelbyville Road but totally forget going to Shelbyville Road.  You must have been on break.

Must have been when I was not there.  I have taken to walking and decided to carry my camcorder just on a whim.  And no, I do not plan to turn my video over to whomever; it is for my eyes only.  All of those vehicles were recorded in three separate time periods:  noon, 3-3:15 pm, and after 5 pm.

I wonder if larryl ever "looked into" getting those white stripes painted?   I recall that several people suggested those shortly after the signs were erected. I bet that suggestion was doa because it came from somebody else and was not larryl's idea.  I do agree that the signs are too tall.  Happy Motoring... please observe the traffic regulations, the life you save may be your own.

As I posted earlier, I made more than one California stop going toward Shelbyville Road when they were first put up, but only when I was driving my car.  In my truck, I see the sign easily because I am sitting up much higher - that seems to validate the comments from others about the signs being too tall.  I have yet failed to see and fully stop when I come from Shelbyville Road regardless of which vehicle I am driving.

I still think the suggestions about the white lines would help.  Any progress on that? NOTE:  I am asking nicely even though I have already asked two times and received no reply ...

I am surprised that Kitty calculated that only 25% do not even slow down.  From my unscientific observations, I would have thought it would have been nearer 40%.  And, yes I do see some residents not bothering to slow down.

The worst offenders are during morning and evening rush hours and all week end.
